Free searchable site with limits on available content. Many libraries, including Jefferson County Library, subscribe to the full fee-based version, AncestryPlus, which can be accessed through the public access Internet computers at the library.

Bureau of Land Management: General Land Office Records
Select "Search Land Patents" from the top toolbar to access information on the initial transfer of land titles from the Federal government to individuals. In addition to verifying title transfer, this information will allow the researcher to associate an individual (Patentee, Assignee, Warrantee, Widow, or Heir) with a specific location (Legal Land Description) and time (Issue Date).

1930 Census Microfilm Locator  
Lists every roll of microfilm in the 1930 census.  It is not a family or individual name index or a digital version of the microfilm.  It is a searchable online database to help users locate which roll(s) of microfilm they need to consult.

FamilySearch - Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 
Free searchable site of databases available through the Family History Library System.  Site offers access to the Social Security Death Index along with other genealogical resources.

Rootsweb  
Free searchable site supported by Ancestry.com.  There are limits on content available to non-subscribers.  Many libraries, including Jefferson County Library, subscribe to the full fee-based version, AncestryPlus, which can be accessed through the public access Internet computers at the library.

USGenWeb Project  
This site is maintained by a group of volunteers working to provide Internet websites for genealogical research in every county and state of the United States.  The project is non-commercial and offers free access for everyone.
